Equity Crowdfunding is the process whereby people (i.e. the 'crowd') invest in early-stage unlisted companies in exchange for shares in that company. A shareholder has partial ownership of the company and stands to profit should the business do well. Increasingly, this method is also being used for established businesses looking to grow.
