SME funding up but bank funding down

The most recent Bank of England Credit Survey reported their findings on the major banks and perceived demand from their clients for funding.

The overall position for Q3 from the major banks was a slight decrease for small and large businesses and a decrease for medium businesses. In the next quarter they forecast small business demand flat and a decrease for medium and large business.

But when you compare this with demand and actual lending from the alternative funding market and those acting outside of the main banks, all their lending metrics are up and have been consistently for several years now. The two graphs are going in opposite directions!
